Dg & Safety
Module 6 - Packaging Page 3 of 3

Below are some examples of Packing Instructions that a shipper must use when sending dangerous goods as freight/cargo. These particular Packing Instructions would be used for sending a flammable dangerous good, such as Ethanol Packing Group III.

  1. Packing Instruction 355 is used when sending flammable liquid Dangerous Goods with no subsidiary risk or a subsidiary risk of Division 6.1 in UN packaging.
  2. Packing Instruction Y344 is used when sending flammable liquid Dangerous Goods with no subsidiary risk in Limited Quantities.

Note: As with all Packing Instructions, if you are sending Infectious Substances overseas, you must ALWAYS refer to the State and Operator variations listed at the top of the Packing Instruction. A full list of State and Operator variations can be found in Section 2 of the current IATA DGR. Read the list of variations carefully to see whether any are applicable to the country you are sending the package to or the airline/s who will be carrying the package. Note that these variations can and do change from year to year and it is important to ensure that you are complying with all current requirements.
