Basic checklist to ship either a UN specified or Limited Quantity package:
- Identify Proper Shipping Name in the List of Dangerous Goods (blue pages).
- Identify the class/division, packing group, and UN number.
- Identify whether the dangerous goods are forbidden
- If not forbidden, identify the packing group of the proper shipping name if applicable
- Choose the packaging instruction (yellow pages), and pack accordingly
- Mark and label the packages correctly
- Complete the Shipper's Declaration and air waybill/consignment note correctly
- If sending more than one class of dangerous good in a package, refer to Table 9.3.A IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations to determine if they are compatible
- If not compatible, you must package the dangerous goods in individual packaging according to the appropriate packing instructions
The following example demonstrates how to mark and label a UN Fibreboard box containing 5 Litres of UN1170 Ethanol as well as prepare the Shipper's Declaration and Air Waybill:
